Projects

  • Virtual Emergency Operations Center (VEOC)
    • Hurricane Matthew (October 2016): As a new R2, actively found and inputted information into the closure sheet, helped bring other editors up to speed when they came to help, encouraged other editors to come to the VEOC to assist, suggested improvements.
    • Hurricane Harvey (August 2017): Actively promoted awareness of the VEOC and recruited other editors to help.
    • West Virginia flooding (February 2017): Found and entered many closures, organized local resources and help within MAR. Activated the VEOC upon a second flooding event within a week. Helped with transition to VEOC.
    • Hurricanes Florence & Michael (Fall 2018)ː Found/inputted shelters and closures, recruited and trained mentees who then helped, helped wherever needed, gave feedback for improvements.
    • Winter Storm Jayden (January 2019): Found and mapped shelter pins in Ohio, then helped other states and regions with shelters and road closures.
    • PLN Winter Storm/Flooding (March 2019): Found and entered closures.
    • TS/Hurricane Barry (July 2019): (Minor help) Finding and entering closures.
  • WV Flooding
    • July 2017 - widespread WV flooding within my AM, handled myself
    • February 2018 - widespread WV flooding, see VEOC above
    • Worked with WV MAR-LAM hippocampuslol to collect data from past flooding events to develop a resource for determining areas likely to flood with the intent to have a quicker response time for future flooding events.
    • Worked with WV MAR-LAM (now SM) kwrigh01 to set-up a closure form and spreadsheet in WV based on the VEOC form and spreadsheet. Also found more resources to help pinpoint locations of flooding and other closures in WV. From all this, developed an updated closure process for all types of closures and added information to the WV wiki page. This has greatly improved our response and organization of ongoing flooding in WV.
  • West Virginia CCP work
    • Communicate with unofficial CCP in Ohio County (OhioCountySheriff-OCSO2, deputy sheriff in Ohio County - has RTC privileges for Ohio County, WV)
    • Feb 2018 - made strides in communicating with WVDOT
      • Responded to many @WVDOT/@WV511 Tweets that Waze had the road closures up to date, promoting the fact that Waze had the closures up to date in the map.
      • Succeeded in getting added to WVDOT mailing list to receive closure reports that include weather related (flooding) closures, planned construction closures, accident/emergency closures, etc.
      • Google group created for WV AM+ and got added to the WVDOT mailing list so others could receive closure reports.
    • Using the above closure reports,(L)AMs have been pitching in with SMs and keeping the closures up to date.
  • West Virginia SM work (in addition to the responsibilities listed in SM wiki)
    • Based on the work in the WV flooding,
      • found more resources to help pinpoint locations of flooding and other closures in WV
      • developed an updated closure process for all types of closures and added information to the WV wiki page.
    • State of the state UR & MP reports for WV
    • Regional UR & MP stats reports for MAR
      • Worked with dbSooner to set-up and gained buy in and opinions from MAR leadership
      • Run reports weekly and update forum post
      • Recruited and trained SirGadwall to act as back-up
    • Keep updated pin maps to help editors find problem areas (SLs, non-WV segments, etc)
  • Ohio Turnpike Project
    • Participated in project to map and track large Turnpike projects involving reconfiguring road into crossovers. Resulted in proposing a page for the Wazeopedia on contraflow reconfiguration and collaborating with other editors on ideas they had.
  • MAR-LAM
    • The topic of Large Area Managers (LAMs) had been broached in the past with no results. I formed a consensus with MAR RC/ARC and SMs to create the new position within my first week of becoming SM based on my experience as a GLR LAM. The MAR-LAM role was formally adopted a month later.
