Revision as of 22:25, 13 September 2019

The AL-FL MapRaid (MR) is scheduled to run from 27 October 2019 at 19:00 UTC through 09 November 2019 23:59 UTC.

The MR Time Zone is Central Daylight Time (UTC -5).

Registration for AL-FL MapRaid is now closed. AL-FL MapRaid will run from 27 Oct 2019 19:00:00 UTC until 09 Nov 2019 23:59:00 UTC (approximately).

Please do not make any edits in the raid area until after the raid begins. This will allow us to get good mapraid statistics.

(DRAFTː NOT IN USE AT THIS TIME)

Welcome

Welcome to the Alabama and north Florida MapRaid! We appreciate whatever your contribution will be, whether many edits to the map or just a few. Each and every one moves us one step forward and improves the quality of the map.

This MapRaid (MR), like others before it, is bringing editors together from across the community, pooling all efforts on a specific area within our region for a short and focussed burst of editing activity. How? All participants will be granted the ability to edit within the complete MR area for the duration of the raid. Each of you will be attached to a raid group with an assigned geographical area pulled from the entire and list of editing priorities. It will be your task to work with your group to help address those objectives!

Mission & Priorities

The primary goal for this MapRaid is to update as many places as possible and to resolve any existing place-based issues with the map. We want to continue to provide the best possible experience for all Wazers as they negotiate their way through the Southeast region and beyond. So, finding a place in search (with complete and accurate business / entity details) and arriving at its location in a timely (accurate) manner is extremely important!

The editing priority is:

  1. Place [Place Point (PP) & Area Point (AP), only] ,
  2. Place Update Request (PUR),
  3. Residential Place Point (RPP),
  4. Parking Lot Road (PLR),
  5. Map Problem, and lastly,
  6. Parking Lot Area (PLA). (Please don't work these until the others have been addressed.)

Signaling help is Needed

WORKING ON THIS DIALOG: Format in SER. Each group will have SER editors - helpful to use this method to communicate.

Current Level -> Desired Level, City, State Planned Edits (Purpose) Permalink (PL)
   REAL LIFE EXAMPLE NEEDED

Place Editing Guidance

Please read this entire MapRaid wiki. If you are uncertain or have questions about how to address something you see on the map, please ask your group leader. [[[Glossary|https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Glossary]] Glossary]

WORKING ON THIS DIALOG: SER follows the national wiki. Any exceptions taken or variations made to that guidance are explained below. We also have occasions where we have chosen to further define what the acceptable practice is for specific types of edits. And we have also included guidance which conforms that the national standards that we feel needs to be emphasized to help us reach our map raid goals.

Places

WORKING ON THIS DIALOG:  USA Places guidanceand here is a link to Southeast Region guidance.

Places NOT mapped

Any places from this list which are mapped (despite this guidance) are locked to a minimum of level 5.

Ex: There are some rivers mapped as requested by Waze staff.
  • interchanges/junctions
  • water of any kind
  • islands
  • beaches
  • toll plazas

Mapping Style - Area or Point

Places in the following categories are mapped as indicated [either as an area (AP) or a point (PP)] in exception to national guidance: https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Places#When_to_use_area_or_point

Place type Mapping Style Place type Mapping Style
City Hall Area Place Campground Point Place
Government Area Place Car Dealership Point Place
Library Area Place RV Park Point Place
Museum Area Place
Post Office Area Place
Sports Court Area Place
  • Most APs are mapped as basic polygons reflecting the building footprint.
  • APs consisting of multi-building campuses, e.g. schools & universities, are mapped as one large polygon inclusive of all parcel boundaries.
  • Gas stations are mapped to the fenceline or parcel boundaries.

Place Marker and Entry Point Locations

WORKING ON THIS DIALOG:  Ensure the Place marker is in the correct spot. Verify an entry point (if present) is anchored to the correct location on a segment for optimal routing.

Place Details

WORKING ON THIS DIALOG:  Especially for this MapRaid, every place should have as much detail completed as possible.

General Tab.
Name.

Name the business/entity as it is shown on their website or from another approved source.

  • Place located inside another Place. Append to the place name " ( "inside" other place name) ". (The WMEPH script will ignore the information inside the parenthesis and pull the correct harmonization information.)
Ex: Target's CVS Pharmacies are named CVS Pharmacy (inside Target)
  • Gas Stations. Be sure to follow national guidance for how to name special cases Please, Do not replace the hyphen "-" with a slash "/".
Address.

A full, complete address must be present and a "City" name is required.

  • For RPPs, use the USPS mailing address city for the "City" name. For businesses,
  • For all others places (PPs, APs, and PLAs,) the "City" name, as well as the rest of the address, is determined by the business or entity. Use whatever address it identifies on the official or claimed website.

  • "Open Hours" - Different hours based on type of service (i.e. lobby vs. drive-thru). Add the hours set with ...... the greatest number of open hours to the place's open hours. Note the other hours set in the description field.

Website.

Except for public schools (who that make extensive efforts to keep their naming schemes), please use the simplest URL that will get you to a chain's homepage, do not link directly to the chains location specific page. Examples are in the sheet below. Be sure to check that the URL works before using it in WME or submitting it to the Place Name Harmonization form or using it for a place.

Segment Editing Guidance

Please read this entire MapRaid wiki. If you are uncertain or have questions about how to address something you see on the map, please ask your group leader.

Parking Lot Roads (PLRs)

No u-turns on PLRs period. Follow the SER standard for adding PLR’s from the Wazeopedia.

Driveways

Add driveways only if needed to support RPP routing

Toll roads

Regardless of rank, Do not alter any toll road segments without first consulting with your group leader. (Requests will be escalated to MR leadership.)

Segment Lock Level

The entire Southeast region (SER) observes the segment locking standards in the chart below.

There are some cases that do not adhere to this standard, such as military base gates (6), and any theme park type areas in Orlando (5/6). Further, all gates at gated communities / private installation should be locked to at least 5.

Standard for locking roads in the southeast region:
Segment Type Default locks
 Freeway  5
 Ramp  5
 Major Highway  5
 Minor Highway  4
 Primary Street  3
 Street  1
 • • • • Ferry • • • •   5
 |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| Railroad |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|  2

Other roads may be locked higher for protection and special situations (areas with construction, tricky design, frequent mistakes, incorrect images, etc.).

If you believe a lock level is incorrect, please talk to your group leader before making any changes.

When you have finished editing a segment, please ensure the lock level is set correctly. If you are unable to lock it to that level, please lock it as high as you can and ask your group leader to up-lock or raise the segment lock to the correct level.

Items beyond Scope of MapRaid

Any major issues that need to be addressed will be followed up on by local editors after the MapRaid's conclusion. Please notify your group leader of any large issues you find.

Toll roads

Regardless of rank, Do not alter any toll road segments without first consulting with your group leader. (Requests will be escalated to MR leadership.)
